CABRILLO MUSIC.ORG 25 PHONG TRAN SPONSORED BY NEAL SHORSTEIN & CHRISTOPHER DOANE Phong Tran is a Brooklyn-based composer and visual artist primarily working in digital and electronic mediums. His work revolves around emotional experience in digital and nonphysical spaces. Phong’s solo work has been released through New Amsterdam Records, people | places | records, and slashsound. Collaborative works of his have been released by Carrier Records, Bright Shiny Things, Gold Bolus Records, and Records to Burn. He’s been featured at the Savannah Music Festival, Bang on a Can’s Long Play Festival (Public Records, Brooklyn, NY), Loud Weekend (MassMoCA), and Momentous Festival (The Momentary). He has also performed with Sō Percussion, Miss Grit, and Darian Donovan Thomas. Phong’s visual work revolves around imagined 3D worlds and spaces. Notable commissioned work of his include a series of Graphic Scores commissioned by A24 and Son Lux as part of a book of piano arrangements for the film Everything, Everywhere, All At Once; a custom 3D image rendering as a companion to FINAL SKIN by BAKUDI SCREAM; and graphic designs for Bang on a Can’s Long Play Festival and Sō Percussion Summer Institute. RACHEL LEE ROGERS Passionate about community, the arts, and especially Shakespeare, Rachel Lee Rogers has been acting, directing, and developing for theatre for twenty years. Her current position as Director of Development at Santa Cruz Shakespeare has been a special delight. She was a founding member and Development Director for Shaking Will, a New Jersey Shakespeare Collective, and served as Development Director for Balagula Theatre Company before becoming Artistic Director. Most recently Producing Director for Bluegrass Opera and Music Theatre, her professional career includes years of acting (AEA), directing, design, and drama education, always with a commitment to outreach and the future of theatre. Rogers holds a B.F.A. in Acting/Directing and a B.A. in Literature and Playwriting from Northern Kentucky University with M.F.A. studies at Mason Gross School for the Arts, Rutgers, and post-graduate certification in Shakespearean and Jacobean Theatre from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts. SIDNEY OUTLAW SPONSORED BY JIM PETERSEN AND ANONYMOUS Baritone Sidney Outlaw , described by The New York Times as a “terrific singer” with a “deep rich timber,” is an internationally acclaimed vocalist for his “weighty and forthright” singing ( San Francisco Chronicle ). Since winning the Concurso International de Canto Montserrat Caballé in 2010, he has performed widely in the US and abroad. In the 24/25 season, Mr. Outlaw performed recitals with pianist Warren Jones at the Brooklyn Art Song Society and The Manhattan School of Music. He debuted with the California Symphony, singing Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, and with the Bozeman Symphony, singing Mozart’s Requiem . He also returned to the Jacksonville Symphony for Handel’s Messiah . On the operatic stage, he reprises the role of Mozart in Le Nozze di Figaro and Don Giovanni with Pensacola Opera and Opera Philadelphia. This year, Sidney releases his album, Black Pierrot , featuring music by William Grant Still and Dr. B.E Boykin, including the world premiere of 26 Ways of Looking at a Black Man with text by poet Raymond Patterson (Commissioned by Merola Opera). His debut album, Lament, was released in 2022, and his recording of Brahms’ Zwei Gesänge op.91 was released in 2024—both by Lexicon Classics. Mr. Outlaw’s recent highlights include performances with Boston Baroque, Chattanooga Symphony, Toledo Opera, National Symphony, and appearances at Carnegie Hall and Avery Fisher Hall. Mr. Outlaw currently holds voice faculty positions at the Manhat- tan School of Music, Teachers College, Columbia University, and The Conservatory at Brooklyn College (CUNY).
