our community with a renovated Civic
Auditorium. Major investments in this
historic City-owned building’s physical and
management infrastructureswill transform the
Civic into a vibrant, fully utilized, and dynamic
center for arts, music, and culture in Santa
With the committed support of the Civic
Renovation Leadership Team, the City
of Santa Cruz Parks and Recreation and
Economic Development Departments, and
thegenerosityof theDavidandLucilePackard
Foundation, a practical plan for improvement
and renovationshasbeendeveloped. Designs
have been created, engineering and seismic
capacity studies completed, along with a
businessplanning study, anda thoughtful and
thorough proposal for future operating and
management plans. Our community now has
the tools tomove thisvision forward!
Capital costs for theprojectwouldbefinanced
throughproceeds froma “Qualityof Life”bond
measure to be put before City of Santa Cruz
voters, ideally in June or November 2018.
Such a bond measure would also include
funding for other important city projects, such
as a permanent sports arena. Renovation
of the Civic as a performing arts and cultural
center will require a private-public funding
partnership and an outpouring of community
supportandadvocacy.Wehaveonly justbegun
our communicationsandoutreachefforts, and
wewill soonneed your help!
